The original and best of all the lantern festivals is held in Chiang Mai Thailand every year and you won’t want to miss out!
This is called the Yi Peng Festival (Loi Krathong), it was held right behind Mae Jo University in Chiang Mai Thailand. The festival is held on a full moon of the 2nd month of the Lanna calenday (which coincides with Loi Krathong, the traditional festival on the 12th month of the Thai lunar calendaพ)
During the Yi Peng festival, a multitude of lanterns are launched into the air where they resemble large flocks of giant fluorescent jellyfish gracefully floating by through the sky.

Lantern Festival before Loy Krathong. Yee Peng Festival in Chiang Mai (sometimes written as ‘Yi Peng’) is celebrated on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month ever year, which normally means midway through November, but this can vary.
In Chiang Mai, the ancient capital of the former Lanna Kingdom, Loi Krathong coincides with the Lanna (northern Thai) festival known as ‘Yi Peng’ where a multitude of Lannastyle sky lanterns adorned with good luck wishes and prayer are released into the sky.
