Founder, CEO, and Owners
Luminosity Gaming was founded by Steve “Buyaka” Maida, a former marketing professional, entrepreneur, and esports enthusiast, in 2015. Since the merger between Luminosity’s parent company and Enthusiast Gaming in September 2019, Luminosity has also been partially owned by investors such as Enthusiast Gaming founder Menashe Kestenbaum. In addition, Grammy Award-nominated Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been an owner and global ambassador for the organization since April 2019. Other celebrity shareholders and ambassadors for Luminosity Gaming include NFL players Richard Sherman and Darius Slay, professional baseball player Trevor May, and prominent DJ Steven “ZHU” Zhu.
Logo
Luminosity Gaming
While Luminosity Gaming has used its iconic “LG eye” logo from day one, the logo has undergone some cosmetic changes since its introduction in 2015. In 2018, Luminosity flattened and sharpened the logo in order to reflect its rising position within the esports world. According to Luminosity, the logo is designed to have an “L” in the middle, representing the first letter of the team’s name, and is enclosed in a circle that represents the circle of life. For Luminosity, this circle represents the organization’s strong focus on teamwork, with every member contributing and no member more or less important than the other. Lastly, the logo’s blue background represents literal luminosity—a light that represents hope, inspiration, and positive energy.

Store and Merchandise
Luminosity Gaming offers a robust line of merchandise that includes jerseys, hoodies, T-shirts, and other accessories. The current Luminosity merch line is available on the organization’s online store—keep an eye on Luminosity’s news page to stay up-to-date on the next drop!
House
Until recently, Luminosity had a “Fortnite House” in Florida, which acted as both a living space and content creation studio for Fortnite personalities Alex “Formula” Kushelevskiy, John “Kiwiz” Payne, Nick “Nicks” Spoerke, and Jordan “Randumb” Schneider. Although the house was a success for Luminosity, bringing thousands of new subscribers to its YouTube channel, the organization parted ways with the group of creators once their contract expired. They have since left to form their own Fortnite content creation collective, known as One Percent, with their own insane gaming mansion.
Philanthropy
Luminosity Gaming and its parent company Enthusiast Gaming have been involved in a number of philanthropic projects and initiatives. In March 2020, in response to the rapidly mounting COVID-19 pandemic, Luminosity held Twitch Stream Aid 2020, a star-studded livestream that raised thousands of dollars for the WHO’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. When Steven “ZHU” Zhu joined Luminosity Gaming as a content creator in May 2020, one of his first moves as a member of the org was to hold a livestreamed charity concert on behalf of MusiCares, an organization supporting artists affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Trivia and Fun Facts
- In the past, Luminosity Gaming has fielded competitors in Hearthstone, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, Smite, and Super Smash Bros, but no longer features these games in its lineup.
- Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, one of the most famous gamers in the world, was a member of Luminosity Gaming earlier in his career.
- Luminosity Gaming is the largest and most prominent Canadian esports organization, but it is not the country’s only esports team, as the Toronto Defiant also compete in the Overwatch League.

[NEW] Content: SK and Luminosity Gaming Agree to Settle Dispute | luminosity gaming – Vietnamnhanvan
Alongside with the players Marcelo ‘Coldzera’ David, Gabriel ‘Fallen’ Toledo, Fernando ‘Fer’ Alvarenga, Lincoln ‘FNX’ Lau and Epitacio ‘Taco’ de Melo, SK welcomes championship winning coach Wilton ‘Zews’ Prado and team manager Ricardo ‘dead’ Sinigaglia. Going forward, the team will remain based in Los Angeles, California, but will also make regular use of SK Gaming’s practice facilities in Cologne, Germany.
Alexander T. Müller, SK Gaming’s Managing Director:
“We are very happy to have found a satisfactory solution for each party involved in the recent contract disputes. Luminosity excels at scouting the greatest talent and we are surely going to see them on the big stage again soon. What they’ve been able to accomplish as an organization and team in such a short time is remarkable. I want to thank Steve Maida for agreeing to an amicable solution in the best interest of the players and the game we have all come to love. At SK, we are happy to leave the emotional weeks behind us and are now looking forward to a fresh start and successful future together.”
Gabriel ‘Fallen’ Toledo adds the following:
“We had a good time playing for LG in the last year. Both the players and the organization grew a lot and have been working hard to make possible what we achieved during that time and we built a remarkable history together. I personally did many mistakes during this transition. I let emotions take part on business decisions and that is something I regret and surely will take as a learning experience to the rest of my life. Steve tried his best to be more than just an owner. Following us in all tournaments and sharing every moment was important and he was part of the crew. I would like to thank Steve and LG for the support last year and SK for dealing with this situation in a very professional fashion. We are very excited to what comes next and we will for sure keep doing what we love most; work hard and play Counter-Strike. Thanks as well to all our great fans, who will hopefully keep supporting us. After all, being good or not in this game doesn’t change the fact that we are all humans being. I’m sure me and my teammates will provide a lot of good moments to our community going forward.”
Steve Maida, Founder of Luminosity Gaming:
“This has been an emotional roller coaster for me and Luminosity Gaming. I’m glad that we could all come together and work out a solution. It might not have started off the best, but SK and Alex made it right in the end. I’m optimistic that SK will be a good home for the team’s next chapter in CS:GO. When we started this journey together over a year ago, none of us imagined that we would come so far, so quickly. Due to the rapid growth of our success, we went through some small growing pains and learning experiences both from an organizational standpoint and as players. I always have and always will consider these players to be dear friends of mine, and, ultimately, I decided that their future and continued success was the most important thing to me. I’m eternally grateful to have been able to get to know them and support them over the past year, and I’ll cherish all the memories we have together. I have to also give a special thank you to the Brazilian community and all of our fans around the world for embracing and supporting myself and Luminosity. I hope you continue to support us in the future!”
SK Gaming will follow up shortly with further information regarding its Brazilian Counter-Strike team.
