Nigma’s players will stick together for yet another season. Despite being one of the most talented rosters in the Dota 2 competitive scene, Nigma did not qualify for TI10, a harsh blow for the players’ goals.

Last season, Nigma finished 13th in the DPC rankings, just behind Thunder Predator and beastcoast.

Nigma’s Dota 2 roster for the 2022 DPC season is as follows:

  • Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi
  • Igor “iLTW” Filatov
  • Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi

Tundra esports announces long-term contracts with players till 2024

Tundra Esports has announced it has resigned its squad for the next season. Tundra Esports had a mixed year in 2021 with victories at ESL One Fall, a third-place finish at OGA DotaPIT Invitational. The team was in a close contest to qualify for TI10, but barely missed out, which is probably why the organization has reinvested in the players with the hopes of making it to TI11.

Tundra’s roster is as follows:

  • Oliver “skiter” Lepko.
  • Leon “Nine” Kirilin.
  • Neta “33” Shapira.
  • Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu.

Alliance announces Dota 2 squad for DPC 2021-22

Alliance has revealed its Dota 2 lineup for the upcoming season. Former Quincy Crew member, Lelis will be joining Alliance and bring his unique offlane gameplay to the squad. Nikobaby remains on the squad and will be a core member of the squad.

“For the coming season we decided that we want to rebuild things from the bottom up,” Alliance CEO and co-founder Jonathan “Loda” Berg said. “Handsken who has a history of being position five and drafter has now returned to the position. Not because he is forced to do so, but because it’s a natural step. Throughout the year him and Niko have played an incredible amount of games together and they have become not only a natural duo within the game, but they are also a driving force within the team.”

Alliance’s Dota 2 squad is as follows:

  • Simon “Handsken” Rasmus Haag
  • Ondřej “Supream^” Štarha
  • odrigo “Leslão” Santos
  • Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov
  • Adam “Aramis” Moroz

Alliance finished 9-12th at TI10 losing to T1 esports. The team will hope to improve upon its result this year as it battles in a packed EU DPC.

SumaiL and IceIceIce joins Team Secret

SumaiL joins Team Secret

The King has joined Secret. Team Secret announced they are signing SumaiL for the upcoming season and it is an opportunity for SumaiL to prove his worth once again in the Dota 2 scene. The former TI champion will move to Europe for the upcoming season and hopefully, this time Team Secret can win TI.

Known for his Storm Spirit and aggressive Aegis steal attempts, for years SumaiL has continued to demonstrate his exceptional raw talent, instinct and focus. He is explosive, fearless, and a terrifying opponent. He is short-listed as one of the best NA players of all time, and the young prodigy has grown into one of the most legendary and famed core players in the world.

SumaiL played for Team OG at TI11, where they placed 7-8th. While fans were expecting probably another miracle run from OG, despite the problems the team faced just before The International, it was not to be. OG lost to the eventual TI champions, Team Spirit in the lower bracket round 3.

Meanwhile IceIceIce also joined Team Secret as the eccentric offlaner will be looking to find some success with teh European squad. With experienced players on this roster such as SumaiL and IceIceIce as well as the TI veteran, Puppey, Team Secret is looking as one of the most formidable squads before the start of the DPC season.

Pretty excited to be playing with Secret. It’s a perfect lineup for my playstyle, and Puppey has always been someone I’ve wanted to play with for the last 10 years. I love camels and I can’t wait to be punched by Puppey.

Matumbaman returns to Team Liquid

After a brief hiatus, where he was part of the world’s best team, Matumbaman is now back on Team Liquid. This announcement comes days after Zai also parted ways with Team Secret.

Matumbaman returns to his former home Team Liquid

Matumbaman is coming home! Matumbaman revealed in a short clip that he will return to his former glorious team and join the Liquid family.

Matumbaman returns to his former home Team Liquid

Aside from a victory at the Leipzig Major, Team Secret had an 8-win-streak throughout mid-2020. The team came in even stronger at TI10, placing their highest ever achievement on the biggest stage by placing 3rd.

Matumbaman had been a part of Team Liquid since its Dota 2 roster’s inception in 2015 till 2019. The move to Team Secret came as a surprise, but the player has repeatedly proved his worth on the International stage. A return to Team liquid could signal a resurgence in the fortunes of the Team Liquid Dota 2 squad.

CIS Rejects squad featuring Ramzess and fng

Some of the big names from the CIS region have formed a new squad called CIS Rejects.

The lineup sees RAMZES666 revive the CIS Rejects name—a mantle he last played under in 2015, before signing with Team Secret. He’s joined by former Alliance player fng, former Natus Vincere players Vladimir “RodjER” Nikogosian and Pavel “9pasha” Khvastunov, and Gleb “depressed kid” Zyryanov, who recently had stints on Team Empire and Team Unique.

The CIS Rejects lineup has a lot of tier one DPC-level talent, and definitely lives up to its name. Ramzes, 9pasha, and RodjER found themselves on the inactive list of Na’Vi after a disappointing DPC season. Instead, Na’Vi took a risk on a Akbar “SoNNeikO” Butaev-backed lineup in a last-ditch attempt for TI10 qualification.

Evil Geniuses had a disappointing 9-12th finish at TI10. The team lost to Vici Gaming in the lower bracket of the tournament.

The move to Southeast Asia is of particular importance for Fly who has spent the last four years competing in North America.

“The Southeast Asian region has always held a special place in my heart, with its passionate fans and raw Dota power. It will be intense, yes, but I am looking forward to competing under a fresh banner and alongside this talented roster. I am excited for a new era of SEA Dota.”

November 15

Lelis departs Quincy Crew

Quincy Crew’s manager Jack Chen hinted at upcoming roster changes on October 16th and within 24 hours the team’s offlaner Rodrigo “Lelis” Santos has announced he will be moving on. However, more changes may be on the way during the roster reshuffle period.

The Brazilian went into details in a Twitlonger post:

“First of all I would like to start this by thanking my teammates from Quincy Crew and our manager Jack for the opportunity to have played with them and be part of the team. It was an amazing experience for me and something I am very proud of being part of, even though our results were not that good, it impacted my life in a very positive way.

The team ending/disbanding was something inevitable, at least in my eyes, since we grinded for 2 years for TI and got a relatively bad placement. Our performance at TI was a bit lackluster especially in the groupstage, but we managed to crawl out of the dumpster and collect some wins in the end. It wasn’t all that bad and some teams would have probably crumbled in our situtation. I am very proud and happy we managed to pull through and survive the groups and win our bo1.”

Lelis on his departure from Quincy Crew via Twitlonger

Lelis went on to say he will be returning to streaming next week as he evaluate his best options for the future. Quincy Crew placed 9th-12th at TI10, but were expected to place much higher.

There are eight tiers to Dota 2’s complex ranking system starting all the way at the bottom with Herald and escalating all the way to Immortal. Every single tier, apart from Immortal, has five sub-ranks within them, with one being the lowest and five the highest. Therefore there are 36 ranks in Valve’s iconic MOBA.

You’ll see from the rank badges above that there are quite a few for Immortal. That’s because, depending on where you place in the Immortal leaderboards, you’ll get a sparkly badge to show off – but they don’t can’t as individual ranks.

HOW DO RANKS WORK IN DOTA 2?

Dota 2’s ranking system might look complex from the outset, but it works just like any other competitive game out there. Ranked will need to be unlocked over time by new players by playing 100 hours worth of casual games, but after that, the grind can begin.

Once ranked has been unlocked (and you’ve linked your phone number to your Steam account), you’ll need to complete ten matches before you get your first rank. This will be determined only by your win/loss ratio and your overall MMR – not by your performance in the match.

After that players will lose or gain ranks as their MMR alters over time. The ranking system rules do not change as players progress up the ladder, unlike Valorant ranked, but ranks will be reset over time as new seasons come and go.

What is Dota 2 MMR?

Your MMR, or matchmaking rank, is a numerical score that simply determines what rank you are. It also serves as a matchmaking tool to ensure competitive integrity is upheld during competitive games.

The number is fluid and will increase or decrease as you win and lose ranked games. Once you reach the value for a particular rank, say Legend 2, your rank will change. You can view the MMR values for each rank in our table above.

It’s worth remembering that only your wins and losses factor into your MMR, though. Individual performances, good or bad, do not play a role in changing your MMR value.

What is the Dota 2 ranking distribution?

With so many ranks, it’s hard to know how competitive Dota 2 really is. Valve doesn’t give out the official data, but thanks to some handy API, we’re able to get a good idea of what the distribution is like in the current leaderboards.

According to Esports Tales, here’s how the Season 5 distribution looked like for ranked Dota 2.
