[Update] Dota 2: ESL One Hamburg interview | esl one hamburg – Vietnamnhanvan

esl one hamburg: คุณกำลังดูกระทู้

With the ever changing dynamic of Valve’s

Dota 2

pro circuit, it’s finally time for the first major of the season to get underway.

ESL One Hamburg

kicks off this week, with eight of the world’s finest teams set to battle it out for the lion’s share of $1,000,000. Due to the new format and requirements there’ll be some familiar names missing from what we saw last year, but still, it’s the biggest tournament of the new season so far. We’ve seen two minors already, with

Minesk

i taking home the trophy in Bucharest after

Liquid

showed they still mean business in Kiev.

Now, all attention turns to Hamburg, Germany. Thousands of fans will pack the city’s Barclaycard Arena across the weekend to watch their favourite players compete in some scintillating Dota 2. It’s the last tournament of arguably the best Dota 2 patch ever,

7.06

, so here’s hoping it provides a send-off that the patch truly deserves. The road to The International 8 is a long, arduous one, and this event presents the first batch of

qualifying

points from a major. There’s considerably more on the line than in the minors so the importance of victory cannot and should not be underestimated.

Organising an event of this size is no small feat so we spoke to

Ulrich Schulze

, senior vice president of product at ESL to find out just what goes into putting on a Dota major.

ESL One Hamburg is the first Major of the new season. Does that put any extra pressure on the team to put on a good event?

Our main focus is always on creating legendary esports moments. This goes for the players and teams participating in the tournaments as well, the community and fans around Dota 2 in this case. For us, it doesn’t really matter how big a certain event is. Mega events like ESL One Hamburg or a comparatively smaller event such as the National Championships are basically treated the same way, with the exception of needing to adjust the manpower for the events and its projects accordingly. Nevertheless, with great power comes great responsibility, which is why our preparation engines are running at full to make the debut of ESL One Hamburg a great success for everyone.

This is the first event in Hamburg, with Dota generally having found a home in Frankfurt in recent years. What was behind the move to Hamburg?

We’re always looking for new and exciting locations all over the world to host our events. After three epic years in Frankfurt, we felt like it was time for us to move on. After carefully evaluating different options, it comes as no surprise that we have chosen Hamburg. The Barclaycard Arena is a natural fit, as it’s designed to host large scale events such as music concerts and sport championships, offering seating for up to 16,000 fans. In addition, we believe in the special atmosphere around the city of Hamburg, which will not only support the largest European Dota 2 festival, but also make it even more attractive for the fans.

What goes into organising a Major? What is the day-to-day like for you in the run up to an event this size?

The process of planning an event of this size starts well in advance. It usually takes more than a year to turn the original idea and concept into an actual multi-day stadium event. We’re currently in a very crucial and exciting phase of the event execution; where the participating teams are confirmed, the schedules are up and the preparation for the group stages are in full swing.

On one hand, we have our IT and event teams going to Hamburg this week to ensure everything is ready and set up for the event. Then our marketing department is using all available channels and resources, from online to offline advertising, making sure everyone is aware of ESL One Hamburg.

What can fans look forward to in Hamburg?

On top of the ESL One Hamburg Dota 2 tournament, we always try to offer a large variety of side activities that the community will enjoy and become an active part of. First off, we have the cosplay contest, which has always been a stand-in part of Europe’s largest Dota 2 festival. Talented cosplayers flock in from all around the world. This platform we provide offers them the chance to show off their newest creations and win €3,000 in cash prizes and additional sponsored prizes. Secondly, we have the VR Challenger League. The very first VR Esports league will have its first European stop in Hamburg, featuring a total prize pool of $200,000 and a chance to participate in the grand finals in 2018.

What’s the scale that goes into production with an event this size? How many people are required to work behind the scenes to make the event all run smoothly?

At major esports events such as ESL One Hamburg, we usually have a few hundred employees working onsite from an assortment of departments. Our colleagues are preparing, planning and working on the best possible implementation for several months before the actual onsite event. It’s no lie to say that standing in the arena, watching hundreds of cheering fans, is a great reward for the hard work and time everyone puts into such an event. Moments like those are the ones that keep us going.

Does Dota present different challenges from the likes of Counter-Strike or, on the whole, is it all very similar?

Most disciplines or game titles have a few unique features that differentiate them from others. However, many of them also share certain characteristics. The main part of setting up an event like this stays the same, generally speaking, whereas the smaller details and finishing touches make it what it becomes in the end. As a simple example we can take the cosplay contest, which obviously works fantastically for Dota 2 and its community. Nevertheless, this wouldn’t work in the case of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Another detail to be taken into consideration is the observing process, which needs to be adjusted for almost every game. In our upcoming Intel Extreme Masters Oakland PUBG Invitational, we’re going to need a dozen observers in order to provide our audience with the most thrilling moments of the tournament to increase their experience.
