PGL Main Stream

Format

• 16 teams are placed in a single group where they play in a Swiss-system format.
• Five rounds of matches.
• All matches are played in a Bo1.
• Opponents always have the same Win/Loss record.
• Teams never play an opponent twice.

Round 1
Initial eight matches are seeded.
Round 2
Division into two groups:
Winners of Round 1 (“high”)
Losers of Round 1 (“low”)
Each team is drawn an opponent from their group.
Round 3
Division into three groups:
Teams with a record of 2-0 (“high”)
Teams with a record of 1-1 (“mid”)
Teams with a record of 0-2 (“low”)
Each team is drawn an opponent they have not played yet from their group.
Winners of the high group are the highest seed for the playoffs.
Losers of the low group are eliminated from the tournament.
Round 4
Division into two groups:
Teams with a record of 2-1 (“high”)
Teams with a record of 1-2 (“low”)
Each team is drawn an opponent they have not played yet from their group.

I know it takes more time, but it’s also nice to see some real group stages. Swiss style competitions can also be a lot of fun as well.

It is time to see who can upset who and thats fun that the winning team will meet winning team. This can avoid some lucky team that can get some points by having some luck, lol

nice i managed to get back in time after hiking just to watch the championship (also my expected finals)

hopefully VG.J pulls throught right now there are so many teams that are incredibly competitive that if they prevent VP from becoming a juggernaut pre-TI .. the upcoming TI will be amazing to how many teams can take the championship but none is the favorite

They had a great run, for sure, but i do think VP outclasses them in pretty much any category, so the only thing they might have a slight advantage over VP could be “momentum”.

This VGJ run looks a lot like VG run in the last tournament 2 weeks ago. To me they seem predictable and not flexible or versatile enough to battle VP, so yeah I agree that VP outclasses them in every category. We will see, it can probably go either ways if VGJ have a good day and are on the roll, but to me it seems that VP will just crush them.
